16th September 2010. Bill rode out of Tuscaloosa heading for Calera, Alabama and stopped at Vance to phone. The hills are very frequent but short, so although tiring going up, he can coast a lot. Wednesday September 15th 2010 12:30pm. Stopped at Dollar general store in Eutaw, about half way to Tuscaloosa, to buy a replacement stool (named "specimen" for those of you who have ever been given a small jar at the doctor). They need a stool to climb in and out of van because they have dinky little legs (hey, I'm 6' 5", so everyone is short by my reckoning). They left it at the hotel in York! 7th Day of Ride Tuesday 14th September 2010. Bill rode out of Forest, Mississippi about 9am and stopped to phone in the message about 10am. He tells us he was so tired out yesterday that he flopped out on the bed not long after arrival at the hotel and went out like a light before he could update us fully. Bill also explains that compared with the 2008 ride, little publicity has been spread anywhere other than Carrollton, Georgia and in Carrollton and Grand Saline, Texas. He is disappointed, because there appear to have been some hollow commitmentrs made by some people. Click to open in your usual Media Player
Entering Jackson about 3.15pm, and describes the area as very pretty and hopefully Dondra will get some good photos. Click to open in your usual Media Player

Sunday Sept 12th 1.30pm. Stopped at Start (yes it's a real place name), Louisiana, about a third of the way to Vicksburg, MS. Got a bit sunburned but Dondra looking after Bill. Flatter gradient roads (although poorly patched in some places) and 3 mph headwind, so progress is good and allowing longer ride intervals than previous 7 miles. Start of 5th Leg of journey Sunday 12th Sept 2010. Left Monroe, Louisiana a little late. Slept a bit late and took a couple of wrong turns in the city. Phoned in about 11am and told us that he has 5 Crew, including himself! Dondra (his wife, navigator and nurse); Marty Neese (his good friend and bike mechanic); Becky Purkiss (unable to hear this part so Bill repeated it in a later phone call and it has been "spliced" into the audio file); and finally BillDL (yes, that's me the webmaster and I'll spare myself the embarrassed blushes). I'm a little worried about the noise right at the end of the rather poor quality call, because it sounds like a UFO or something, and Bill hasn't called back yet! End of Leg 4! Arrived Wingate by Windham Hotel, West Monroe, Louisiana about 6pm. Thanked sponsors, Harvest Your Dreams Travel (booked hotel) and Build-A-Sign.comâ„¢ (made magnetic signs with sponsor logos for van). Completed 76 miles and is very tired. Click to open in your usual Media Player

Departed Minden, Louisiana and phoned in around 11.30am from Highway 80, about 12 to 15 miles into journey, to report that roads are getting much rougher and more hills. Team C2CR2C Arrived safely in Minden, Louisiana probably some time after 6.30pm Friday September 10th 2010. 74 miles completed (couple of wrong turns in Shreveport deducted). Change of strategy - will ride 6 or 7 miles and stop for hydration instead of riding to exhaustion before breaks. Temp was 97 degress, but humidity factor increased effective Temp to 104. Very tired and heading to bed (7.45pm). Click to open in your usual Media Player
Bill stops for a break about a quarter of the way through his ride and tells us that the gradients are becoming more frequent, without allowing much recovery time between them. He is obviously hot, because right at the end he muses that if he was a woman he could be referred to as a "hottie". (Don't ask me, overheating can do funny things to a man!)
